Success Begins from Within: Having the Right Mentality

The only way to properly be successful is to have a successful state of mind. There is no entrepreneur in the world that is rich because they did not think they could make it in their industry. Self confidence and belief in oneself is extremely vital to being successful in sales and marketing. John Paul Getty, the richest man in the world in 1957, coined the phrase "the millionaire mentality" which is the state of mind which puts an individual way along the road to success and is always above the cost-conscious and profit-minded.
If I were to get with you in an elevator and ask you what you thought you wanted out of life, what do you think you would say? Most people usually respond "I want to be happy." Now, if I asked you what your definition of happiness is, do you think you would have an answer right away?
It is okay if you do not. Most people have no idea what might make them happy. Those people that say money, I always counter with another question. What really is money, anyway? Money is just paper or numbers in a database held by the bank that we exchange for goods/products/services that make us happy. I would like to remind you with this article that you need not only to set financial goals for yourself, but think long and hard about how the entirety of your life is impacted by your business.
Write Out Your Goals
I know that goal-setting is one of the essential things when you begin a business, but have you actually written them down? I recommend to take a piece of paper and make a few columns. What goals do you want to reach by the end of the week? How about the end of the year? What about over the next five years? The goals that you set yourself do not have to just deal with business. You also want to focus on yourself and how you can make yourself feel/look better. Maybe you want to lose those last 15 pounds. Perhaps you want to move your family from the city in a 2 bedroom apartment to the suburbs and get a 4 bedroom house. Anything that you think is feasible would be something that you would want to place in your columns.
When you write out these goals, make them present tense. Write out whole sentences as a proclamation to what you have done instead of what you might do.
For example: "I will lose 15 pounds by the end of the month." "I will buy a 4 bedroom house in the next five years."
Writing in the present tense puts you in a positive mindset in achieving your goals. There is nothing worse than doubting yourself once you have set some goals and come to some hardships. Do not fall into that common trap of beating yourself down! These negative thoughts might sound like "I know today is going to be a bad day" or "I know I am going to miss that bus". Your day is how you make it, so try to avoid the negatives and stick with the positives. Your day is just getting started and it can only get better from here!
Learn About Self Compassion
Having self-compassion is a little bit different than having self-esteem. Self compassion is your willingness to look at your own mistakes and short-comings with the understanding that to err is human. It is NOT lowering your own standards or letting yourself off the hook. If someone brings a problem to your attention, instead of being immediately defensive take a step back and assess the situation. If the claim is founded, then a self-compassionate person will take steps to correct the problem and change the weakness. If you find that the claim is unfounded (as sometimes they are), you will just need to put the negativity from your mind and move on.
Self-esteem is different because it effectively looks past your short-comings as if they do not exist and lets your ego get in the way. If there is an actual problem, it will continue to go unaddressed and threats to self-esteem may cause depression and anxiety.
Using self-compassion will boost your motivation and in turn boost your performance. It allows you to effectively focus on your business without having to worry about any troubles you may have because of the negative words that may be floating around you.
First begin with "Millionaire Mentality" and other aspects of your life will follow! There is no better feeling than accomplishing your own goals.
