How to Blog

Since the turn of the century, blogging has been a rising staple of the internet among savvy marketers to connect with prospects and customers by delivering useful and educational information. Now, many of my associates ask me the same question about blogs. How do I blog effectively? Well, the answer to this question will be forever changing with the times as media and technology change. My answer today will be how to effectively write blogs for April 2013.. :)


First and foremost, you want to figure out what you want to blog about. 

Since many people will either use blogs for personal or business use, you can pretty much narrow it down from there. If you are going to use it for your business, then you will want to make sure that you can credibly and passionately write about aspects of your business. If it is going to be personal, pick an aspect of your life that you have a strong opinion about -- something that interests you so much that you can pique other people's business as well.

Decide if you would like to host your domain or if you would like a free service to do it for you.

If you are going to have your blog reflect your business, I would recommend hosting your blog. Choose a domain name that would effectively brand your product or catch reader's attention. You will also need to choose a host. Many of the people that I know usually choose GoDaddy.com because it has a one-click installation of WordPress, so you do not have to know advanced CSS or HTML to integrate it into your site. 1and1.com is also another highly recommended host that is very inexpensive ($4.99 per month) that has a very user friendly control panel and very dependable servers.

If you would like a free service to host your blog, I personally recommend Blogger.com which belongs to Google.  It is very easy to use for beginner - advanced users and allows you to track the number of views and the geographic locations to where your audience is viewing from. Other popular places are WordPress.com as well as Weebly.com just to name a few.

Set up your blog with an appropriate theme and key words.

Once you have selected where you want to post and what you want to write about, I always recommend to select a theme and use keywords in your posts that popular search engines will be able to pick up so that your website is able to be listed when people are searching for things in general. This is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO. I believe that when I click on a link while just browsing for a general topic, if the words on the page and the page in general is easy to look at I will spend more time on it to find what I am looking for.

Like in my previous blog post, the very first step is to catch the reader's attention before you can convert a lead to a sale.
